In 2004 for the self titled "Kathi McDonald" Pete Slauson tempted Vernon "ICE" Black (Lead Guitar) and Greg "GG" Gonaway (Drums) of Mariah Carey's touring band into his studio to back up Kathi, along with Rich Kirch, well known for 13 years as John Lee Hooker's lead guitarist. Jimi Fischer, Bass player for Steve Winwood, Narada Michael Walden and the music producer for the "Temptations". Nick Gravenites, a true "Blues Brother" was brought in as song writer and session consultant, having produced Paul Butterfield Blues Band, and Quicksilver Messenger Service and many other San Francisco Bands. The sessions became known in the local music scene, and several other local legends, some involved with Kathi in past projects ( David Frieberg of Quicksilver Messenger Service, for example) happily jumped aboard to lend their talents. Geoff Palmer, B3 Organ player, from The Sons of Champlin. Joli Valenti, (Vocals) Dino Valenti's son, from Quicksilver Messenger Service. Annie Sampson (Vocals) from Stoneground. Gail Muldrow from Sly and The Family Stone, Prince, and Graham Central Station. Peter Kaukonen from Jefferson Starship, Hot Tuna and Black Kangaroo (Acoustic Guitar). Rick Meyers former Hoo Doo Rhythm Devil and writer of Santana's "Over and Over", also on B3 Organ.

McDonald devoted almost three decades to recording and performing in collaboration with Long John Baldry prior to his death, and the duo scored with their version of "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" when it was released in Canada. In Australia the recording went to #2 on the charts

She was inducted into the Washington Blues Society's Hall of Fame in 1999.

Kathi currently has been working with various projects. Her most recent efforts include a Blues Album with Chicago Guitarist Rich Kirch (John Lee Hooker, Luther Tucker, Jimmy Dawkins, Jimmy Rodgers) and is due for late 2010 release. Kathi was featured on Dave Getz - Break Away Album "Can't Be The Only One" and she performs the lost Janis Joplin song titled with the same name. Kathi McDonald & Friends EP album "On With The Show" is released May 15th 2010.
